Jean D. Carruthers, M.D., is Clinical Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where she specializes in facial cosmetic surgery. Dr. Carruthers is a Diplomate of the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery and Fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She has been invited to give more than 200 presentations worldwide on topics in cosmetic surgery and has authored more than 206 scientific articles and book chapters. With her husband, Dr. Alastair Carruthers, she pioneered the cosmetic use of botulinum A exotoxin and has remained at the forefront of research and teaching about this procedure. She opened her own cosmetic surgery practice in the late 1990s. Dr. Carruthers has been profiled in numerous publications including Best Doctors in Canada, the New York Times, Allure magazine, Time, Newsweek and Vogue. She has also been featured on the television program 20/20.

Dr. Alastair Carruthers is Clinical Professor of Dermatology with the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC). He received his medical degree from Brasenose College, Oxford (UK) in 1969, did his dermatology residency at St. John's Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London and completed his London and completed his graduate studies in dermatologic surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (USA) in 1982. During his 20 years of practice, Dr. Carruthers has made several major contributions to the field of dermatology. Foremost among his major contributions to the field of dermatology is use of BOTOX® for cosmetic applications, a discovery he made with his wife, Dr. Jean Carruthers, in 1987. He has over 100 published articles to his credit and has authored numerous text books. He is a member of several associations, including the American Dermatology Association and the Canadian Dermatology Association, where he served as President from 1998 to 1999. In addition, he was President of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and has just finished serving his term as President for 2006-2007.
