Blu-U with Levulan Treatments in Vancouver

Acne is a common problem for people in their teens and early adulthood. One of the more common non-pharmacological treatments for acne involves the use of Blu-U, a unique ble light that kills the bacteria in your skin responsible for acne. In some cases, we recommend Blu-U with Levulan to help increase the effectiveness of the treatments.

What is Levulan?

Levulan is a 20% aminolevulinic acid HCL topical solution that can be applied to the skin to help increase photosensitivity before a BLU-U treatment.

Results and Recovery

We don’t use Blu-U with Levulan with all patients, however, for those patients who do not mind some down time and want an immediate response, and for those who find their acne is slow to respond to the BLU-U treatments adding Levulan is a good option.

Response to this treatment may be immediate or it may present itself the night of the treatment or the following day. Typically one should expect 3-5 days of downtime consisting of redness, swelling and mild tenderness of the skin as well as darkening of brown pigmentation that will eventually wash away.
