IPL Lumenis One

IPL Lumenis One Treatments in Vancouver

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) was a treatment that was first designed to strip the paint of airplanes! It has, however, been refined and adapted enormously in order to treat uneven, rough-textured complexion, and fatigued and aging skin. IPL Lumenis One is also used on large brown aggregations and large collections of over concentrated capillaries that give an aging face a red plethoric and rather spotty look. Many studies have shown that clear translucent skin of whatever colour is perceived as being young and attractive.

Intense Pulsed Light treatments can be done on the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, back, and legs. IPL Lumenis One is one of the most popular treatments in our Vancouver practice.

How It Works

This IPL Photorejuvenation technology represents one of the greatest advances in the treatment of aging skin, because the light energy that is applied to the skin is very effective in reducing both red and brown pigments and some of the longer wave lengths also stimulate new collagen formation so that the face becomes more coherent and luminous rather than dull and spotted.

IPL is a broadband visible and infrared light treatment that delivers the light energy to the face, neck, chest, arm, hand and back skin through a chilled applicator which preserves the integrity of the treated area. Each laser pulse lasts only a fraction of a second and may either cause a warm sensation on your skin, or a short sting.

Intense Pulsed Light with Levulan

Levulan (delta amino levulinic acid) is a photosensitizing drug which can be used to enhance the effect of the IPL on face, neck, chest and hands and arms. It is particularly helpful for subjects with denser pigment deposits as it can give the result of about 2-3 non-levulan treatments. The downside is that most subjects treated with both IPL and Levulan experience two to three days of redness and swelling as more energy has been applied to the skin.

1064 nm NEODYMIUM YAG

Some blood vessels are blue (veins) and don’t absorb the IPL wavelengths as efficiently as the brighter red capillaries. The 1064 wavelength is absorbed better by venous blood and so the unwanted blood vessels can be closed.

Recovery and Results

We usually treat individuals with 3-5 treatments of IPL, however, depending on your skin pigment density more than one treatment may be required.

The IPL treatment rapidly restores the skin to its clear canvas look, but you should also be maintaining your IPL result with the daily use of such cosmeceuticals as Vitamin A, C a, E, Ferulic Acid, Alphahydroxy acids, sunscreens , and infrared antioxidant protectors.

To maintain your results we recommend you have a maintenance treatment every 6-12 months depending on their life style (i.e. spends a lot of time outdoors or in the sun). We do also suggest that individuals use SPF 60 sunscreen or higher if they are going to commit to this kind of treatment because we feel that maintenance and prevention are equally important.
