Aesthetic Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty of the upper and lower eyelids are cosmetic procedures that open and rejuvenate the peri-ocular area. Blepharoplasty or lid lift is a delicate surgical procedure in which excess skin and/or fat is removed from both the upper and lower eyelids.  The eyes may then have a more open, youthful and bright appearance.

Usually, the upper lid fold starts to be hidden in the mid-thirties and this appearance can make one look tired, angry and frustrated. Lid lift surgery is a most effective way to restore an open, relaxed and youthful appearance.

In the lower lid, the prominent fat pockets can be removed from the inside (transconjunctival blepharoplasty) to reduce bagging under the eye. The fat from the orbit can also be moved into the tear trough area to help reduce the dark circles under the eye. In some instances it is necessary to augment the fat transfer with a tissue filler such as Evolence Breeze, or hyaluronic acid (Juvéderm Ultra, Restylane). This will help to give the lower lid a more youthful appearance. Excess skin can also be pinched up and removed along the lower lash line to re-drape the lid contour.

We recommend taking at least one week off your regular activities but give yourself 2 weeks for bruising and swelling to diminish, particularly with lower lid surgery. Everyone's healing process is different, so these are only estimates.  Stitches will be removed in one week and makeup can be applied at this time to camouflage any residual swelling or bruising. Please keep in mind during this period that one side may heal faster than the other.

Blepharoplasty turns back the clock but you will continue to age. Continuing with your ongoing skin maintenance program and sunscreen, AHA and Vitamins A and C therapy, can help maintain the effect longer.
